3 Easy No Prep Resources for Emotional Intelligence

Sometimes us teachers just need simple. We need no prep resources that we can have at the ready. Something non-teachers don’t understand is that time goes REALLY fast in the classroom, and basically anything can happen in a 30 minute time span. A student crisis, vomit, a lockdown drill, needing to clear the classroom – all completely feasible! Having resources that are just READY to go that we know students can access independently is worth gold. Best part? I have 3 resources here for you that are also quality. We’re not just talking coloring pages (although those truly are amazing, too), but quality SEL resources that will also help students generalize and practice emotional intelligence skills.

3 No Prep Resources

These no prep resources are going to be essential for your classroom functioning. I like keeping resources like these in multiple places. A “go-bag” is something I always kept by my classroom door. It was just a simple tote bag that held a folder of ready to go activities just like these. Inside I kept some student scissors, glue sticks, a few boxes of crayons/colored pencils, a few fidgets, and copies of highly used visuals. If we needed to clear the classroom, had a long lockdown drill, or had to leave for any reason, that go-bag was ready for us!

Emotion Yes/No Cut and Paste

This particular resource is also great for early finisher activities or independent student work! It’s ready to go and practices multiple stills. Think targeting yes/no questions, reading for meaning, fine motor skills, and emotional intelligence! These worksheets could also work perfectly in speech groups or occupational therapy! The yes/no question component and the cut and paste component make for a great permanent product no prep resource.

Emotions I-Spy

This resource is great because you can use them in multiple ways! If you’re looking for straight up NO PREP, the black and white mats are for you. Students read the prompt and play I-spy by coloring what they find. If you’re open to a little prep that will last you a long time, try the colored versions. The color I-Spy mats are designed to be laminated for longevity. Students take some kind of manipulative (mini erasers, Unifix cubes, dry erase markers, etc) and use it to play I-Spy. Students can play this with a partner or individually! You could easily prep these far ahead by having the manipulatives in a bag or container next to the laminated mats. Done and done for the entire school year and beyond!

Emotion Word Worksheets

These worksheets are a crowd favorite. They are really targeted because each page only focuses on a few emotions at a time. This allows for students to really practice more granular emotion vocabulary words. These are really self directed, especially if you have students who can read simple directions. If not, they can easily be differentiated by adding color codes, etc.

Feedback has also told me how much other teachers appreciate the different fine motor skills students use to complete the sheets. It’s not just me! While this is a no prep resource for teachers, there are a lot of ways the student engages with the page! These can also work really nicely in OT sessions or a fine motor center!

How do you use no prep resource sin your setting? Are they necessary for you? Other uses for no prep resources can be packets to send home to students who will be gone for extended time, paraprofessional run centers, early finisher tasks, and of course, the dreaded sub plans! There are so many reasons to have quality no prep resources at your finger tips!

Looking for a bundle of resources that fits this no-prep category? Look no further!
