3 Books for Reinforcing Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be such a tricky topic to introduce to children. Stillness can be tough for early learners or children who have disabilities, but being present often comes naturally to children. Capitalizing on this foundation of mindfulness can help kids better understand its importance! These are my three favorite mindfulness books that help reinforce the concept for children.

1.) I am a Peaceful Goldfish by Shoshana Chaim

I Am a Peaceful Goldfish

This is easily my one of my favorite mindfulness books for kids. I feel that using imagery and similes when teaching mindfulness makes the often lofty concept more tangible. Each page offers children a relatable image and an exercise to try.

2.) Peaceful like a Panda by Kira Willey

Peaceful Like a Panda: 30 Mindful Moments for Playtime, Mealtime, Bedtime-or Anytime!

I love this book because it incorporates imagery AND offers exercises for common routines throughout the readers day. This mindfulness book gives tips for managing your body, breathing, and thoughts after waking up, when learning, when traveling, etc. This is a great one to recommend to caregivers!

3.) Charlotte and the Quiet Place by Deborah Sosin

Charlotte and the Quiet Place

Life is busy and life is loud – this book helps the reader follow Charlotte as she finds the quiet and stillness amidst all that goes on around her. This mindfulness book is a great read aloud that can be read again and again as a tangible and helpful reminder.

Teaching mindfulness can often feel really lofty if you’re teaching young learners. Remember, the day you plant the seed won’t be the day you see it flourish and grow! Consistency and reinforcement is key to teaching important, life long skills like mindfulness. Leaning on these books, and other mindfulness books like them, can be a great way to keep touching on the skill.
