What are your credentials?

I have my undergraduate degree from Illinois State University in Special Education, which in Illinois certifies me to teach Kindergarten — Age 21 across all disability areas with the exception of students who are Deaf/HOH or Blind/Visually Impaired. My Master’s degree is from The University of Illinois in Special Education which allowed to gain my credentials to be come a Multiple Disabilities Specialist. I additionally am trained in trauma informed practices and am a Trauma and Crisis Specialist through the American School Counselor Association, as well as certified in Cognitive Coaching and Adaptive Schools.

What do you teach?

Over my 10 years in the classroom, I taught exclusively in self contained settings in Chicagoland. I have taught students with low incidence disabilities including but not limited to Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, OHI, Multiple Disabilities, and Emotional Disabilities. I found myself most passionate about serving children with Emotional disabilities. They’re often very misunderstood. Equitable behavior plans and effective classroom management became my passion projects! I spent 6 awesome years as a social emotional learning coach at a public school in Chicagoland, and currently I work as an educational advocate for a non-profit. I support families post-adoption from DCFS when they have adopted a child with a disability in Illinois. I also do contract work supporting students in special education at a private school on Chicago’s southside.

What about your books?

I am a published author! In 2020, I released my first children’s book, Roaring Mad Riley, out into the world. It’s a really awesome, affirming book about a dino named Riley who learns the best ways to support her anger while at school. In 2025, I released my first professional text, Their Best Behavior. I am so proud to have written a book for teachers that centers both the child AND the teacher in ways that are functional, team-based, and ethically sound. I LOVE to read, travel, hang with my family, and be outside.
