A Peek Inside the Dysregulated Course

I truly wonder if there is a number that can capture the number of “hats” the average teacher wears each week. Beyond teaching math equations, grammar rules, or historical events, we wear the hats of mentors, counselors, and, sometimes, lifelines for students who are often emotionally dysregulated. When students are in crisis, they aren’t just struggling to learn. They are often quite literally struggling to survive. And yet, so many of us feel unequipped to provide the support these children desperately need.

If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “I wish I knew how to help,” the “Dysregulated” online course by Dr. Jennifer Ulie could be the resource you’ve been searching for.

It is NOT often that I am hyping up a course or a robust professional development opportunity. I share a lot of books, but courses? Not really. I am authentically sharing that this is a course I really believe can be instrumental in so many schools, classrooms, clinics, and homes.

Meet the Creator: Dr. Jennifer Ulie

Dr. Jennifer Ulie, a renowned expert in trauma-informed education and emotional regulation, has dedicated her career to helping teachers and students navigate the complexities of behavioral challenges. With years of experience as an educator, researcher, and advocate for student mental health, Dr. Ulie brings a wealth of knowledge and practical strategies to the table. I personally love that Jennifer is a former teacher herself and has absolutely been in our shoes. Even more meaningful, she is a parent to a child who inspired her creation of this course. Her compassionate approach and evidence-based techniques have transformed classrooms across the country, empowering teachers to create safe, supportive learning environments.

The Reality of Teaching Today

Let’s face it: the classroom landscape has changed. Students are coming to school carrying heavy emotional loads—anxiety, trauma, grief, and stress. While we’re trained to deliver curriculum, write IEPs, and meet programmatic goals, many of us haven’t been trained to navigate the complex world of emotional regulation and crisis management. This gap leaves us feeling helpless and, sometimes, burned out.

Here’s where “Dysregulated” steps in.

What This Course Offers

This online course is built of, yes, lectures, BUT additionally—it’s a transformational toolkit designed for educators who want to:

  • Understand Dysregulation: Learn what it means when a child is dysregulated, why it happens, and how it impacts their ability to learn.
  • Identify the Signs: Spot the subtle (and not-so-subtle) indicators that a child is in crisis.
  • Apply Proven Strategies: Equip yourself with actionable techniques to de-escalate situations and create a supportive environment where students can thrive.
  • Prioritize Your Well-being: Gain insights into how to manage your own emotional resilience while supporting students in need.

Why It’s a Game-Changer

One of the standout features of this course is its balance between theory and practice. You’ll gain a solid understanding of the science behind dysregulation and trauma, but more importantly, you’ll walk away with strategies you can implement immediately.

Imagine being able to:

  • Diffuse an escalating situation in your classroom without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Foster a sense of safety and trust for your students.
  • Feel confident, not lost, when faced with a child in crisis.

Who Should Take This Course?

Whether you’re a new teacher or a seasoned veteran, this course is for anyone looking to:

  • Better support students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Improve classroom dynamics by fostering a culture of emotional safety.
  • Deepen their understanding of trauma-informed practices.

Why Now?

The stakes are too high to wait. Every day, students in crisis are falling through the cracks because they don’t feel seen, heard, or supported. As teachers, we have the unique opportunity to step in and make a difference. But we can’t rely on instincts alone—we need tools, resources, and knowledge.

“Dysregulated” provides exactly that.

Ready to Make a Difference?

You don’t have to face these challenges alone. With this course, you’ll not only gain the skills to support your students but also the confidence to know you’re making a lasting impact.
